Dr. Jose Crespo received his doctorate degree in physical therapy from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI (2014). Marquette University's strong emphasis in hands on manual therapy strategies helped shape the early direction of his career. As a whole his clinical experience has specialized heavily in vestibular rehabilitation, TMJ / craniofacial pain and migraines, spinal dysfunction and chronic pain rehabilitation.

Jose's initial clinical path focused on the treatment of TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction), cranial / facial pain, migraine / tension type headaches and spinal dysfunction as he worked extensively within a pain management and TMJ treatment center in Wisconsin. Jose’s effectiveness in the management and treatment of TMD is rooted in his professional and clinical experience working directly with multi-disciplinary medical teams which included dentists with board certified specializations in TMD / orofacial pain and dental sleep medicine. A patient’s success in their journey with TMJ dysfunction is frequently determined by early conservative management. Jose’s experience as a physical therapist is to effectively treat and therapeutically manage all biomechanical factors relevant to a patient’s orthopedic diagnosis and when needed - effectively involve the collaborative consultation of dentists, airway-focused orthodontists / orthotropics, ENT physicians, myofunctional therapists, speech therapist, and oral surgeons. Jose’s clinical treatment strategies consistently eliminates pain with eating / chewing, restores active range of motion of the mandible (jaw) so that normal movements such as eating, talking and yawning are pain free, educates patients on all factors involved in managing bruxism (clenching/grinding of the jaw), resolving / maximizing function to address acute or chronic “lock jaw”, and ruling in biomechanical factors behind chronic history of migraine-like pain disorders.

Jose's clinical experience in the treatment of TMJ, facial pain and migraines expanded his career focus into the world of vestibular rehabilitation. There is a very high prevalence of both dizziness and vertigo within the population of those suffering with TMJ dysfunction. As a result, Jose has extensive clinical experience in the rehabilitation of vestibular dysfunction including: vertigo, dizziness, disequilibrium / unsteadiness, nausea and motion sensitivity as well as complex neurologic medical conditions. Jose has proudly rehabilitated a high volume of patients referred from a variety of medical professionals including specialists from Ear, Nose and Throat, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Audiology and Optometry medical practices.

Jose utilizes proven neurologic treatment strategies to help individuals restore their vestibular function. Jose will also systematically analyze the patient’s functional movement status and then create a combined treatment approach utilizing both orthopedic rehabilitation and neurological rehabilitation for the maximum therapeutic recovery of the dizzy and imbalanced patient.

The Plan

At times our healthcare system can seem fragmented and entirely wasteful. All too often patients are the victims of defensive medicine where unnecessary medical testing and ineffective and invasive interventions are implemented far before proven physical and neurological rehabilitation.

Vertigo Atlanta & Physical Therapy is here to rehab interrelated body systems that all too often plague our functional well being. These body systems are frequently responsible for a myriad of symptoms including: dizziness, nausea, motion sickness / motion sensitivity, unsteadiness / poor balance, unsteady vision, facial pain, ear pain, jaw pain, tinnitus, headaches, migraines, brain fog and neck and back stiffness. At Vertigo Atlanta you will receive a thorough evaluation that assesses the function of your vestibular system, craniofacial / mandibular anatomy (TMJ) and vertebral column to create a treatment plan that addresses the entire system as a whole.

The above mentioned symptoms are commonly the result of a structural and neurological movement disorder/deficit. Unfortunately our healthcare system will direct a patient through a long list of extensive diagnostic testing in order to only "test" the possible cause behind your symptoms.

At Vertigo Atlanta and Physical Therapy we want you to understand that physical therapy serves as both "the test" and "the treatment". This routinely saves the patient a significant amount of time and money as these symptoms are commonly overlooked from the very beginning as having their origin within the scope of physical rehabilitation.

We are here to tell you that your body is built to be resilient and it is built for movement with the integration of all body systems. When we eliminate dynamic human movement, these interrelated systems begin to struggle. Unfortunately, traditional and generic treatment programs will force your rehab needs to be dealt with in an isolated manner as if your problem existed in a vacuum. This could not be further from the truth and more importantly will not correctly restore your body.

Generic treatment plans and protocols are killing the reputation of the rehab industry. At Vertigo Atlanta & Physical Therapy, we are here to change that and give you an entirely new experience. You will not only obtain relief and resolution of symptoms but you will be fully educated and empowered to self manage your condition now and into the future.

My invitation to you:

  • It's time to put down the Meclizine bottle and fix your equilibrium with proven neurologic rehab strategies

  • It's time to stop relying on pain medications and common compensatory strategies such as a "soft food diet" in the management of your facial pain and migraines

  • It's time to be proactive about the health of your neck and spine and allow full spectrum rehab strategies to be utilized to unlock your full potential for fluid pain free movement

  • It's time to accept that your physical limitations require movement as the foundation of your rehabilitation and your path to true recovery
